Chessmate supports friend-based online play rather than random-player matchmaking. That reduces one kind of exposure, but it does not make every interaction risk-free.

How online play works

Players connect through accounts, friend requests and accepted friend relationships. The backend checks that users are friends before allowing direct chat. Online games and spectator features are intended for friend connections; there is no random matchmaking queue.

Social and interactive features

Profiles and friend discovery let users find and connect with other accounts.
Text messages can be sent to accepted friends and are stored by the app backend.
Voice chat uses microphone permission during supported online games.
Push notifications may alert users to invitations or messages.
Ad-supported content and in-app purchases/Mate Coins are part of the mobile app experience.

Age rating is not a safety guarantee

Google Play currently shows an “All ages” content rating and indicates that users interact. This rating does not establish that every social feature is appropriate for every child. The source code reviewed does not let us verify an age gate, parental-consent mechanism, complete chat moderation, user reporting, blocking or parental controls. We therefore do not describe Chessmate as “child-safe” or promise that all interactions are monitored.

Guidance for parents and guardians

Review account, friend, chat and voice features with children before enabling online use.
Discuss not sharing home addresses, phone numbers, passwords, school details or other sensitive information in profiles or chat.
Supervise voice chat and friend requests, and review purchase settings on the device's Google Play account.
Use Android permission controls to manage microphone and notification access.
